1. Overview
VoxTube ("we", "our", "us") is a Chrome Extension that translates and dubs YouTube video audio into different languages. This privacy policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.
2. Data We Collect
We collect only the minimum data required to operate the service:

3. Data We Do NOT Collect
- We do not access or store video content from YouTube
- We do not track your browsing history or activity outside of YouTube
- We do not collect personal information beyond your email address
- We do not use cookies for advertising or tracking purposes
- We do not sell your data to third parties
4. How We Use Your Data
- Authentication: Your Google email is used to create and manage your account via Firebase Authentication.
- Translation: Subtitle text from YouTube is sent to our server, translated using AI, and converted to audio. Translated audio is cached on Cloudflare R2 to speed up future requests for the same content.
- Usage tracking: We track how many videos and minutes you've used to enforce plan limits. This data is stored in Firebase Firestore.
- Billing: Payment processing is handled entirely by Lemon Squeezy. We do not store credit card information.
5. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Google Firebase — Authentication and data storage
- Google Cloud Run — API hosting
- Cloudflare R2 — Audio file caching (S3-compatible object storage)
- Azure Neural Text-to-Speech — Voice synthesis (via Edge TTS)
- Lemon Squeezy — Payment processing and subscription management
Each service has its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review them.
6. Data Retention
- Account data: Retained as long as your account is active. You can request deletion at any time.
- Cached audio: Translated audio segments are cached for performance. Cache entries may be purged periodically.
- Usage data: Daily counts reset every 24 hours. Monthly counts reset each billing cycle.
7. Chrome Extension Permissions
VoxTube requests the following Chrome permissions:
- identity — Required for Google sign-in authentication
- storage — Save your language and voice preferences locally
- activeTab — Access the current YouTube tab to inject the translation player
- Host permission (youtube.com) — Interact with YouTube pages to extract subtitles and inject the player UI
8. Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA)
You have the right to:
- Access — Request a copy of your personal data
- Correction — Request correction of inaccurate data
- Deletion — Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Portability — Request your data in a machine-readable format
- Objection — Object to processing of your data

9. Children's Privacy
VoxTube is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected data from a child under 13, please contact us and we will delete it immediately.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes through the extension or via email. Continued use of VoxTube after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
